Out-of-Service Inspection for On-Ground Storage Tanks

A typical PCA Engineering out of service inspection of a storage tank would include:

General Condition Survey: This survey would include a visual survey which would record all appurtenances, coating conditions outside, a check of gauging system, high level alarm system, and fire equipment system.

Ultrasonic Thickness Survey: This survey would include five shots per plate on the floor and first course, random sampling on the plates adjacent to the ladder, and four shots per plate on the roof.  This would also include pit depth measurements.

Structural Integrity Survey: This survey would be conducted to obtain information on the deflection angle at each top course with reference to each tank and out of roundness of each course.

Holiday Test: This testing would be performed in the event the tank bottom has an epoxy or fiberglass coating and would include holiday test, hardness test and report of coating condition.

Vacuum Box Test: Vacuum box testing of welded seams on the floor plates to ensure no leaks are present.  This would include oil or dye penetrant on the periphery welds, if considered necessary.

Report which would encompass the findings of the above tests as performed.
